Teen charged with having alcohol on campus

STATESVILLE - A West Iredell High School student was caught with alcohol on campus on Tuesday.

School officials met with James Kevin Easterling, 18, after hearing that he brought alcohol to school.  A water bottle containing 10 ounces of vodka was found inside Easterling’s book bag during a search by Deputy Hicks.

Teen charged with selling Adderall at school

OLIN - A 15-year-old student of North Iredell High School was charged with selling amphetamines on Tuesday.

A staff member contacted Iredell Co. Deputy Reggie Allen, the school’s resource officer, on Tuesday and told him that he saw a student passing something to another student.

Kasey Kahne Foundation announces new grant program for students

MOORESVILLE - The Kasey Kahne Foundation announced today a donation to the NC STEM Community Collaborative that establishes a grant program to fund educational field trips to the NASCAR Hall of Fame in Charlotte, N.C. 

The donation is a result of proceeds from the inaugural Kasey Kahne Foundation “Five Kahne Presented by Bank of America,” a 5K charity run held on Oct. 17 in Uptown Charlotte.

“STEM is an important part of the education system,” said Kasey Kahne, driver of Red Bull Racing’s No. 4 car for the 2011 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series.  "This program will teach young students how important engineering and technology are to the racing industry.”

SALISBURY -A total of 273 students have been named to the Dean's List for the fall semester at Catawba College, according to Dr. W. Richard Stephens, Jr., Provost of the College.

 Students named to the Dean's List have achieved a 3.5 grade point average in 15 or more semester hours.

Teen cited for cursing, making obscene gestures at middle schoolers and faculty

IREDELL COUNTY - A 16-year-old student at North Iredell High School is facing disorderly conduct charges after shouting profanities and making obscene gestures at North Iredell Middle School.

Deputy T. Lewis, the middle school resource officer, said the bus Jared Lance Corder, of Statesville, rides stops to pick up other students at the middle school.

On Tuesday, Lewis said Corder got off of the bus, ran toward other students at the middle school, started making offensive gestures at the school bus and cursing loudly. Lewis escorted Corder to the Principal's office to calm him down. Corder continued to curse and was very disrespectful to Lewis and office staff. Lewis issued Corder a citation for disorderly conduct and released him to his parents.

MOORESVILLE - Two teens were cited last week after they were caught with alcohol on campus during a basketball game at Lake Norman High School, deputies say.
