Police: Former scout leader stole from Cub Scouts

TROUTMAN, NC (WBTV)- Police in Troutman have arrested a scout leader they say was taking money from the Cub Scouts.

Ira Haltiwanger, 35, of Troutman, is charged with embezzlement and obtaining property by false pretenses, according to a news release from the Troutman Police Department.

Scout leaders of Pack 174 reported money missing from the Cub Scouts bank accounty on Feb. 13.

Bank records showed money be taken out of the account after Cub Scout Treasurer Ira Haltiwanger had resigned.

Police say he had resigned after questinos were asked about the Pack's finances.

Approximately $1,650.55 was misused by Haltiwanger for his personal gain, according to the release.

Haltiwanger was release on a $1,500 bond from the Iredell County Jail.

Deputies: Former teacher charged with 111 sex charges against students

A former teacher in Iredell County has been charged with an additional 96 counts of taking indecent liberties with children after several more victims came forward that were students in his classroom during the 1970s and 1980s.

John Thomas Patterson, 65, resigned as a 4th grade teacher at Mount Mourne Elementary School in 1987, according to a news release from the Iredell County Sheriff's Office.

The investigation began in October 2012 when detectives began looking into allegations that Patterson had inappropriately touched 4-5 male students during the mid to late 1980s. 

At that time he was charged with 14 counts of taking indecent liberties. Patterson was placed under a $100,000 bond on these charges.

Since Patterson's initial arrest, multiple victims and witnesses have come forward that were students in his classroom from the mid 1970's through the late 1980's.

Deputies uncover high-grade marijuana in hidden basement of house

TAYLORSVILLE, NC (WBTV)- After conducting an investigation into the distribution of high-grade marijuana into Iredell County, detectives from the Iredell County Sheriff's Office Narcotics Division executed a search warrant, with the assistance of Alexander County Sheriff's Office, at the home of Adam Robert Jackson, 22, of Hiddenite, North Carolina. 

Detectives discovered a large high-grade marijuana growing operation located in a hidden room in Jackson's residence, containing scores of mature plants as well as extensive quantities of dried marijuana packaged to sell.

Stanly Co. man arrested for Alexander Co. break-ins, deputies say

TAYLORSVILLE, NC (WBTV)- Investigators with the Alexander County Sheriff's Office have obtained warrants on Reginald Lamoris Brown, 34, of Albemarle. 

Brown has been charged with two counts of breaking and entering into a residence, two counts of larceny after breaking and entering, and one count of attempted breaking and entering, according to a news release from the Alexander County Sheriff's Office. 

These incidents occurred on November 30, 2012. 

Brown is currently being held in the Iredell County Sheriff's Office on similar charges.  These charges are the result of a joint investigation between Iredell County and Alexander County authorities. 

Alexander County warrants have not been served yet. The investigation is continuing and more charges are likely.

Deputies: Man arrested for breaking and entering, revoked driver's license

A Charlotte man was arrested in Mooresville Monday for breaking and entering, according to the Iredell County Sheriff’s Office.

On January 14, deputies responded to a call of a breaking and entering in progress in the 200 block of Paradise Peninsula in Mooreville.

The burglar and vehicle had left the area prior to their arrival, but deputies were able to get a vehicle description and tag number.

A short time later, deputies located the suspect vehicle on Morrison Plantation Drive Mooresville. The vehicle was driven by Anthony Damon Torain, 37, of Charlotte, officials said.

After further investigation, deputies also learned that Torain’s drivers license was revoked.

Torrain was taken to the Iredell County Detention center where he was charged with driving while license revoked and breaking and entering.

He was placed on a $5,000 secured bond.

Man arrested on drug charges after month-long investigation

Iredell County Sheriff’s Office Aggressive Criminal Enforcement Team and members of the Criminal Investigation Division arrested a man on drug charges.

Christopher Stephen Jackson, 24, of Reuben Dr. was arrested and charged with maintaining a dwelling for use of controlled substances and possession of drug paraphernalia.

The A.C.E. team received complaints of heroin distribution from the home approximately a month before the arrest and began investigating, the report states.

A.C.E. team members conducted surveillance at the residence and were able to make several vehicle stops, which resulted in locating people in possession of drug paraphernalia consistent with heroin use, deputies said.

On Friday night a search was conducted of Jackson’s home, where the A.C.E.

Man charged for fourth time for failing to register as sex offender

SALISBURY - A Rowan County man has now been charged for the fourth time in eleven years for failing to register his status as a convicted sex offender.

John David Chambers, 48, was originally convicted of taking indecent liberties with a child in Mecklenburg County in 1995.  Chambers served one year and three months on that conviction.

In 2001 he moved to Iredell County, but failed to notify the sheriff of his new address.  As a result Chambers was charged with failure to register as a sex offender and sentenced to one year and six months in prison.  In 2005 he faced the charge again for failing to notify the sheriff that he had a change of address in Iredell County.  Chambers pulled another one year, six month prison term on that charge. In 2008 it happened for a third time, again in Iredell County, only this time he was sentenced to three years in prison.
