Statesville man arrested for growing marijuana, deputies say

STATESVILLE, NC (WBTV)- A man is behind bars today after deputies in Iredell County found marijuana growing in a building behind his house.

According to the Iredell County Sheriff's Office, the A.C.E. Team received information about a possible indoor grow operation on Nixon Road in Statesville.

When deputies arrived at the address to investigate, they were met by the homeowner, Gregory Lee Lapish, 34.

When the deputies interviewed Lapish about the charges, they say he admitted to growing marijuana in the building behind his house.

A search was then conducted, and a total of ten marijuana plants were found along with heat lamps, fertilizer, and other tools used in the grow operation.

A .45 caliber pistol was also seized in conjunction with the drugs.

Lapish was arrested and charged with manufacture marijuana, felony possession of marijuana, maintain a dwelling for controlled substance, and possess drug paraphernalia.

He was placed in the Iredell County Jail under a $9,000 secured bond.
